About the Item

A stunning and most elegant French 19th century Louis XV/XVI st. Mahogany, Ormolu, and Fleur de Pêcher marble desk. This impressive rectangular desk is raised on four cabriole Mahogany legs accented with Ormolu mounts of a beautiful maiden decorated with foliate designs and slender fine acanthus leaves while being supported on scrolling foliate Ormolu sabots. The straight front apron displays a mottled Ormolu band and showcases an arbalest shaped scrolling acanthus leaf central reserve. The central front drawer displays a pierced Ormolu mount of beautiful scrolling foliate designs which are flanked by pierced Ormolu mounts of additional foliate designs edged with a beaded Ormolu band. Each side panel is decorated similarly to the flanking panels on the front of the desk with their pierced foliate patterns and beaded Ormolu edge. The wonderful Fleur de Pêcher marble top displays rounded corners and mottled edges that are fitted within a Coeur-de-Rai designed Ormolu band.
