About the Item

A very handsome and high quality French 19th century Louis XVI St. tulipwood, kingwood and ebony drop front desk. The desk is raised by four square columns joined by a bottom tier and decorated with a pierced ormolu gallery. Above is an exquisite Japanese black lacquer drop front panel depicting a landscape with figures and decorated by an ormolu beaded border. Inside are six mahogany compartments above four draws finished with burgundy leather, gold tooling and original ormolu pulls. At the top is the original white Carrara marble display tier surrounded by a pierced ormolu gallery. Measures: Top depth closed 7" Top depth open 22".

A unique and very high quality French 19th century Transitional st. mahogany and ormolu cabinet/secretary desk. The secretary is raised by most elegant slender cabriole legs with beautiful finely detailed foliate sabots and scrolled foliate corner mounts. At the center is one drawer with fine ormolu pulls and a striking pierced foliate family crest shaped keyhole escutcheon. The drop down front displays a stunning intricately detailed hand painted scene of beautiful maidens seated outside playing with baby sheep while being courted by a boy. The painting is framed within a mottled ormolu band with fine circulate rosettes and additional charming hand painting scenes at each side. The drop down front opens to reveal two drawers, five pull out shelves, a fitted green felt writing surface, and all original hardware.
