About the Item
A high quality and most decorative French mid 19th century Louis XVI st. Mahogany and Ormolu desk. This handsome desk is raised by square tapered Mahogany legs with a top Ormolu band and a fitted bottom Ormolu sabot with a foliate design. The frieze displays a raised center with two curved ends decorated by an Ormolu foliate spray all below the central elongated drawer. The central drawer is flanked by two drawers above an Ormolu reeded band. Each drawer is elegantly decorated with fanciful pierced keyhole escutcheons with a central shield and berried laurel branches on each side. The outer borders of the drawers are set within a rope and reeded Ormolu frame. At the four corners of the desk are mounts with draping fabrics with tassels. All below the leather fitted top bordered by a Mahogany band and a reeded designed outer Ormolu edge guard. The desk is finished all around with the opposite side of the desk being decorated in the same manner.
