A rare 1950s gilt dressing table by James Mont, a key figure in American mid-century design known for his bold, theatrical interpretation of Hollywood Regency. This signed piece exemplifies Mont’s fusion of glamour and Eastern influence, with stylised carved bamboo cartouches and a luminous gold-leaf finish.
Crafted in solid hardwood, the surface is finished using Mont’s signature technique: a base layer of white gold or platinum leaf, overlaid with gold leaf and brushed to a soft, radiant sheen. The carved bamboo relief across the facade draws on Asian motifs, offering strong visual rhythm and texture.
The piece retains Mont’s branded signature inside, confirming its authenticity. While structurally sound, the table shows significant surface wear and visible oxidation. It would benefit from a professional restoration to fully revive its original brilliance.
