Italian Burl Walnut Venetian Rococo Slant-Front Desk

An elegant Venetian Rococo bureau veneered in walnut and burl walnut, characteristic of the mid-18th century Louis XV style. The desk features a slant-front writing surface, opening to reveal a well-organized interior with one drawer on each side of a central door and a concealed secret compartment on the flat surface, reflecting the period’s taste for functional ingenuity and refined craftsmanship.
The base comprises three large serpentine-front drawers, providing ample storage, while the straight sides maintain a balanced architectural form typical of Venetian Rococo furniture. The delicate burl walnut veneers, combined with the flowing Rococo curves of the drawers and desk front, highlight both the material richness and the sophisticated aesthetic of Venice’s mid-18th-century cabinetmakers.
