Large French Bureau Plat / Bureau de Ministre in Mahogany with Gilt Bronze Mounts, Empire / Napoleon III, French Empire / Napoleon III Bureau de Ministre (Bureau Plat) in Mahogany with Fine Gilt Bronze Mounts A fine and generously proportioned French bureau plat, also known as a bureau de ministre, executed in richly figured mahogany and flamed mahogany veneers on all sides, allowing the desk to be placed freely in the center of a room. The rectangular top is original, elegantly framed with finely chased gilt-bronze molding. The frieze is fitted with a wide central drawer flanked by two additional drawers, each adorned with finely chiseled and fire-gilded bronze mounts. The decoration includes classical palmettes, rosettes, and expressive mythological figures, reflecting the refined neoclassical vocabulary associated with the French Empire and early Napoleon III periods. The desk is raised on gracefully curved legs embellished with winged nymph mounts and terminating in gilt-bronze sabots, providing both visual balance and structural elegance. The bronze ornamentation throughout is of exceptional quality, retaining its original gilt surface and warm, untouched patina. This impressive bureau plat has recently been professionally restored by a master ébéniste trained at the prestigious École Boulle in Paris, ensuring historical integrity, craftsmanship, and long-term stability. A distinguished and highly functional statement piece, ideal for a formal study, executive office, or refined library interior. Dimensions: 71 3/8 in. long × 36 1/4 in. wide/deep × 30 3/4 in. high Condition: Very good antique condition. Original gilt bronzes with a rich, warm patina. Restoration executed with strict respect for period materials and techniques.
