Vintage Cerused Oak Executive Desk, in the Style of James Mont
United States, 20th C
A striking vintage cerused oak double pedestal desk in the manner of James Mont, featuring Mont’s characteristic sculptural presence, dramatic wood graining, and streamlined modernist form. The desktophas a very attractive, subtly bowed/concave front profile, gently arcing inward toward the seated position—a detail that softens the mass and creates a more elegant, tailored silhouette.
The oak has been cerused (limed) to highlight the dramatic cathedral and ribbon grain patterns throughout, producing a bold graphic surface with depth and texture. Rounded waterfall-style corners unify the top and base visually—a classic Mont and post-war Hollywood Moderne treatment.
Each pedestal contains a stack of drawers: three smaller drawers (approx. 12" W × 5" H) over a larger deep lower drawer (approx. 12" W × 8" H), providing excellent storage on both sides. Two pull-out writing slides extend from beneath the desktop (each approx. 14" D × 12" W), increasing the usable working surface when needed.
