This early 20th-century English chest of drawers is attributed to Hansford Bros., Cabinet Makers and Upholsterers,based on the original label preserved inside one of the drawers.Hansford Bros. operated in Ryde on the Isle of Wight, and this piece reflects the robust construction and traditional styling associated with their work.The chest features a functional five-drawer configuration, with two smaller upper drawers over three full-width lower drawers.All drawers open and close properly, providing reliable storage for clothing, linens, or general household use.
Constructed from wood with a rich medium-dark finish, the chest displays visible grain variation and period craftsmanship. Each drawer front is framed with raised beaded trim, adding texture and dimension. Original metal drop pulls remain intact. Both upper drawers include a keyhole escutcheon, though lock functionality has not been tested.Additional features include paneled sides, turned bun feet, dovetailed drawer construction, and a vertical plank back typical of early 20th-century English furniture.Wear consistent with age is present, including finish variation and surface marks.
