About the Item

A Charming Mid 18th Century, George II Period, Oak Dresser Base, Or Sideboard, Of Relatively Small Proporrtion, Retaining Excpetional Rich Colour Throughout, Having Rectangular Top Over Three Drawers To Frieze, With Replacement Brass Oval Plate Handles, Raised On Square Upright Supports With Original Potboard Shelf Below.  An attractive dresser base of useful small size and therefore perfect for a wide ranging variety of spaces around the home, due to its narrow proportions amongst many other features. It is also of course very elegant and retains a good colour and patina as a consequence of many years hard graft and use, combined with love and care. There is very little damage to speak of, certainly nothing visually unappealing, or which causes a structural problem and although the brass handles are replacements they are in keeping with the rest of the piece and sit really well on it so there are no concerns in that respect. As suggested by the name the original purpose of a potboard shelf was to store all manner of pots and pans. These pots and pans were often still wet, very heavy, or possibly still hot when placed back onto the storage shelf and this is the reason that we regularly find potboard shelves damaged beyond repair, or in rather ugly condition visually. No such problem with this particular piece however, it has a perfectly functioning and attractive potboard shelf. As with all items which we offer for sale this dresser base has been inspected and attended to in our workshops by our trained antique furniture restorers, where it has recieved a natural wax polish to ensure it is ready for immediate placement within the home environment. Circa 1750. Height 30.5in. Width 59.5in. Depth 17.5in.
