This wonderful Danish oak dresser, crafted in the 1960s, is an example of the unique design philosophy of Henning Kjærnulf. Often celebrated for his distinctive ‘Danish Brutalist’ style, Kjærnulf brilliantly fused the clean, functional lines of Mid-Century Modernism with a bold, expressive character reminiscent of medieval and Baroque furniture. This piece perfectly encapsulates that compelling tension, offering both robust presence and refined utility.
Constructed from superb Nordic oak, the dresser stands on characteristically solid, squared legs, grounded by an elegantly carved low-profile stretcher that adds a touch of sculptural finesse. We have meticulously cleaned the cabinet throughout and nourished the wood with a clear oil finish to preserve its superb original condition.
The interior offers practical storage, with a inside drawer height of 10cm (3.94”). It is important to note this cabinet originally formed the lower portion of a larger shelving system. While this history is evidenced by professionally filled fixing holes on each side, visible in the accompanying photographs, these minor traces do not detract from its handsome appearance. Instead, they attest to its authentic, functional heritage.
