About the Item

French Art Deco bar cabinet or buffet sourced in Paris, dating to the late 1930s. Finished in its original warm blond lacquer with subtle metallic inclusions that give the surface a soft luminosity in changing light. The top retains its original geometric decoration with fine metallic speckling, a period detail characteristic of high-quality French Art Deco lacquer work. The cabinet has been structurally revised to ensure stability while preserving its original finishes and character. The façade features four inset panels with a repeating geometric relief motif, highlighted with gilt-toned lacquer accents and set within a softly architectural case with rounded vertical edges. The cabinet stands on tapered legs with original gilt-accented feet. The upper section opens to a fitted bar interior with a mirrored back, glass base, integrated brass rails for glassware, shaped display shelves, and two small drawers with brass pulls. The lower cabinet offers divided storage compartments suitable for bottles or serving pieces. Original brass hardware throughout. The interior bears a stamped maker’s mark reading “Édition AV – fabrication de qualité,” indicating French workshop production. Wear and patina are consistent with age and use, and contribute to the piece’s authentic character. - Origin: Paris, France - Period: 1930s - Materials: Hardwood, Lacquer, Goldleaf, Brass, Mirror, Glass - Dimensions: W 56" x D 18.25" x H 42" - Condition: Wear consistent with age and use.
