About the Item

This authentic antique French bar was crafted in Normandy circa 1870 and was originally intended as a functional service counter rather than a purely decorative furnishing. Constructed from solid pine, the bar features a thick plank top with a shaped cutout fitted with its original zinc-lined basin, complete with a drainage opening, reflecting its practical use for beverage service or preparation. The front presents paneled cabinet doors opening to generous interior storage, accompanied by a small drawer fitted with its original brass cup pull. The interior reveals straightforward provincial construction with pegged joinery and visible wear consistent with a hardworking rural or commercial piece. The zinc liner retains expected oxidation and surface patina from age and use, reinforcing its authenticity. The exterior retains remnants of its original painted finish, now beautifully worn and layered with time, revealing areas of exposed pine beneath. This naturally distressed surface gives the bar a richly textured appearance unique to true Norman furniture. The back is fully paneled and finished, allowing the piece to float comfortably in a room. In excellent condition commensurate with age and use, this antique Provincial bar is structurally sound and ready for use as a home bar, kitchen island, server, or statement piece in a wine room, restaurant, or retail setting.
