About the Item

A remarkable hand-painted bar cabinet sourced from the estate of Jonathan Parks in Santa Fe, known for his highly curated collection of regional art and design. This mid-century cabinet features vivid turquoise, indigo, and coral tones in a geometric composition inspired by Pueblo and Navajo motifs. Each panel is hand-decorated with figural Kokopelli-style flute players, stylized goats, scorpions, and abstract sun symbols—traditional Southwestern emblems representing music, fertility, and endurance. The artistry, color palette, and construction suggest New Mexico or Arizona origin, circa 1940–1960, blending folk craftsmanship with modernist design influences. The cabinet opens to reveal a painted cream interior, complete with bottle storage cutouts and a fold-out top for serving — ideal for use as a cocktail bar or statement console. Its well-worn patina and surface wear give it an authentic Santa Fe studio look, reminiscent of pieces collected by early modernists in Taos and the American Southwest. The underside of the cabinet also features wheels that make it easy to move wherever the party migrates! Details Period: Mid-20th century (c. 1940–1960) Origin: Southwestern United States Medium: Hand-painted wood, original hardware Condition: Beautiful vintage condition; wear and distress consistent with age and use. It appears to have once had a sheet of glass on the inside. But we suspect it was removed so that taller glasses could be hung. There is also a lock; however, the key has been lost somewhere in time. It can absolutely be re-keyed by a locksmith. Features: Hinged top with interior bottle holders and ample storage Provenance: Estate of Jonathan Parks, Santa Fe, New Mexico Styling Ideas - Perfect as a home bar, entry console, or statement accent in a desert-modern, bohemian, or eclectic interior. - Style with ceramic vessels, desert florals, and woven textiles for a layered Santa Fe aesthetic. - Works beautifully in Adobe, Spanish Revival, or mid-century modern homes, adding warmth and character.
