About the Item

A tactile sun radiates from each panel, spun from tightly coiled straw, hand-laid in hypnotic circular relief. The cabinet's façade is a rhythmic composition of woven medallions, each framed by a rectilinear wooden grid that tempers the organic flourish with architectural sobriety. Light dances across the vegetal fibers, drawing out tonal variations in gold and umber, like sunlight filtering through woven blinds. In the style of Adrien Audoux and Frida Minet, this piece exemplifies the couple’s devotion to humble materials elevated through craft. Their Marseille-based practice favored straw, rope, and other vernacular fibers, celebrating the honest labor of the hand while offering an alternative to industrial modernism. Emerging in the postwar Mediterranean context, the cabinet belongs to a broader dialogue of Rustic Modernism, wherein natural textures, artisanal techniques, and minimalist geometries harmonize. The reverse reveals a clean-lined, functional storage solution in veneered wood with sliding doors and open compartments—a duality of ornamental façade and utilitarian back. The straw marquetry is meticulously preserved, its delicate surface protected by the cabinet's thoughtful construction and inward-set design. The body rests on a recessed stretcher base of solid stained wood, lending the whole a sculptural groundedness. Wear consistent with age and use. Meticulously preserved by Jada to maintain its structural integrity while honoring its original patina. Its graphic vitality and textural warmth offer a rare sculptural presence in any interior—resonant, elemental, and distinctly French. Available for private acquisition. Inquiries from discerning collectors are welcome.
