About the Item

Important and sculptural Italian bar from the 1950s, attributed to Gio Ponti, representing a refined example of architectural design applied to furniture. The entire structure is fully clad in parchment, combined with ivory lacquer, creating an elegant balance between soft surfaces, light, and architectural volumes. The bar is conceived as a functional and articulated ensemble, composed of a bar unit, platform, and a separate display cabinet. The display cabinet features sandblasted etched sliding glass doors and is enhanced by a refined flush-set brass inlay embedded within the wooden structure, housed in a slim recessed groove and seamlessly integrated into the original design. A detail of outstanding craftsmanship, typical of high-quality Italian production of the period. The external front of the bar is enriched with decorative bronze panels, sculptural elements that reinforce the architectural and decorative character of the piece. The interior of the bar includes: -a drawer -a glass shelf -a bottle storage compartment The ensemble is completed by three original stools, featuring recently reupholstered red leather seats with brass legs and footrests, perfectly coordinated with the formal language of the bar. A rare and highly representative piece of post-war Italian design, ideal for prestigious interiors and high-end design collections. Fully restored and ready for use. This bar cabinet was produced in Italy, in the late 1930s and is a really unique and special piece. Its tremendous historical and artistic value is what makes this item a real piece of art, hard to find and one of a kind. Firstly, let's talk about its history. It was produced most likely in 1939 in Mariano Comense which is a small village near Milan by the artist Giuseppe Anzani. Anzani has been one of the greatest, if not the greatest wood crafter and inlaid maker. He started his career as an engraver when he was a little child and he won awards for his skills when he was only 16. Later on, he started also to master the art of wood inlay, becoming the most skilled inlayer of all times. His fame was so big that people from all over the world used to come to his little laboratory in the small and unknown village...
