About the Item

Beautiful and compact Mid-Century Modern Dry Bar designed by Tony Paul in the 1950s. Made from bent and welded ebony wrought iron and expanded metal mesh with two polished brass details. The expanded metal mesh at the front was replaced by hand-weaved wicker while the original plywood top was changed for a plywood and zebrano veneer new piece. Its design is very minimal and lightweight, with dominating vertical lines disrupted by horizontal elements for the top and some containers for bottles, glasses, etc. Tony Paul was an American industrial designer born in the Bronx, NY on February 28, 1918. He attended the Pratt Institute and remained in the NY area during his nearly 60-year career, with stints in Italy and Spain. His creations exploited the clean and simple industrial look of wrought iron in lighting, chairs, tables, magazine racks, planters, bars, and other items. He passed away in 2010.

    Rewoven. Refinished. Wear consistent with age and use. The wrought iron was repainted. We have made some interventions to the original piece: 1) The wooden top was made anew, and 2) The frontal expanded metal mesh was replaced by hand-weaved wicker.
