About the Item

Linen press /cabinet hand-made in England in the early 1800s using oak and pegged construction. The linen press is two-bodied with a top cabinet sitting on drawers. The cabinet has straight lines and is decorated mostly by the grain of the wood and the hand-carved molding of the doors found on the top body. The drawers are inset and show beautiful and precise hand-made dovetail joints. The precision of English carpenters is, sometimes, quite stunning to me. The sides are made of chamfered panels framed by flat molding. Throughout the piece we can see the squared pegs used to hold the joints together. The piece still sits on its original, hand-carve bracket feet. The crown molding at the top is also hand-carved and original. One the inside the linen press has been painted at some point of its life and is divided into three horizontal sections by two fitted shelves. On the bottom we find thee drawers, on top of two larges ones on top of a single drawers that spans the entire width of the piece. All drawers work well and can be used on a daily basis. This linen press is a beautiful, elegant piece that would look stunning in a country home or ranch home. The oak has a beautiful warm honey color which allow it lighten a room despite being quite large. Whether it is placed in a kitchen or office this is a very practical piece of furniture that will add storage space.
