18th C. Louis XV Bureau Scriban Bibliothèque Secretary Cabinet Mahogany Antique . A very important rare and Tall Scribing bibliotic secretaire Library desk of a Gentleman or a Lady. Enclosing fitted interior incorporating pigeonholes, hinged compartments.
Outstanding arch top Cornice Molded with raised and recessed, Two front upper library doors Symmetrical with beautiful Hand Metal work of the period. all present and well preserved in a formidable condition, with 4 shelves 5 adjustable compartments to fit your bibelot or books. Then at the bottom Two drawers, one with a pullout handle and the other one has the original lock but not the key.
The drop down middle section, original hinges and hardware, signs of losses scratches stain due to the functionality and use of this gorgeous piece of the period. Two pullout handles to hold it when open. It comprises 6 drawers and two pigeonholes and a small compartment with a door hinges and key.
The lower section has 4 Large bottom Drawers (2 The width of the Secretary, and the other Two share the width in half. Incredible attention and craftsmanship and they are all very well fitted. with all original hardware hinges handles and plaques. Some missing keys, shows few old signs of restoration, As seen in the closeup pictures the signs of the centuries are apparent but minor considering such a large piece of furniture , cracks chips losses , some tightening, with multiple keys and locks . etc.. But overall outstanding condition , at the lower part it looks like a hardware is missing, that’s not the case, we have it , the pictures were taken when we were waxing. You are welcome to send your expert to examine in person.
We have seen our fair share of incredible furniture of the 15th to 19th Century periods. I must say, this desk is incredibly well preserved for its age. the fitting work and the design at that level of sophistication and craftsmanship. the result that could only be achieved by big Masters. this type of furniture at that level are mostly kept with the old families, rarely to see them on the market. I have some other high end chateau inventory and rare pieces of the periods as well.
