About the Item
This late 18th century George III secretary with bookcase is a handsome and versatile piece of English furniture. Crafted from richly figured mahogany, it features a fall front desk with fitted interior compartments above four graduated drawers, providing both elegance and utility. The upper bookcase is fitted with glass doors in geometric mullions, perfect for displaying treasured volumes or decorative objects.
The design reflects the refined simplicity of the Georgian period, with clean lines, bracket feet, and brass drawer pulls that highlight its timeless aesthetic. The fitted writing surface within offers numerous pigeonholes and small drawers, making it a practical workspace as well as a striking cabinet.
Condition is consistent with age and use. One pull is missing its brass backing, otherwise the piece appears to have been professionally restored with a fine French Polish finish, giving it a rich luster and renewed presentation. A wonderful example of Georgian craftsmanship, suitable for both collectors and those seeking a statement piece for the home. 89h x 47w x 21d knee height 31
