About the Item

An intriguing and unusually formed antique Swedish secretary, crafted in pinewood and finished in a soft gray with subtle white highlights. This piece features a beautifully milled slant-front lid, complete with its original working lock and key. When opened, the fall-front is supported by two sturdy wooden supports, revealing a charming interior in light gray. The fitted interior showcases ten small drawers, each with brass knobs, and a central lockable compartment, offering both functionality and visual symmetry. The lower cabinet is especially distinctive, featuring a double-door configuration—a rare detail for Swedish secretaries of this period—each door enhanced with milled paneling. Inside, a single fixed shelf provides generous storage, its unpainted center adding warmth and authenticity. The lower doors also retain their original working lock, and the piece comes with three keys corresponding to its various locks. Elegant in scale and rich in character, this secretary rests on shaped bracket feet and originates from central Sweden. A wonderful example of Swedish rural craftsmanship from the late 19th century.
