About the Item

An elegant and architecturally refined 18th-century Baroque secretary desk crafted in oak and beautifully veneered with mirror-cut walnut in a classic and distinctive Baroque design. The thick, hand-cut veneer work is characteristic of the period and executed with great precision and attention to detail. The piece is constructed in two sections: Upper section with a swan-neck pediment and a boldly profiled cornice. Behind the pair of doors are fitted shelves. Lower section with a slanted writing flap that opens to reveal an interior with drawers in solid oak. Below are three large drawers with straight, finely veneered fronts. Fitted with its original brass mounts, locks, and keys. The piece remains in beautiful, untouched original condition. Made in Northern Germany (then part of Denmark), circa 1700–1740.
