About the Item

An impressive period Baroque secretary dating to circa 1760. This substantial piece has been historically repainted, featuring a black exterior contrasted by a distinctive blue-painted interior, a combination that highlights both its architectural form and functional complexity. The upper section opens to reveal paneled doors enclosing interior shelving, while the slant-front writing surface drops to expose a fitted interior with small drawers and compartments. Below, the lower case offers graduated drawers providing ample storage. The piece is constructed with strong proportions and classic Baroque symmetry, resting on bun feet that anchor its presence. The painted surfaces show age-appropriate wear, contributing to the secretary’s character and authenticity. The blue interior retains visible patina and brushwork, consistent with 18th-century painted furniture traditions. Structurally sound and visually commanding, this Baroque secretary functions equally well as a writing desk, storage piece, or focal point, offering historical depth and dramatic presence suited to both traditional and curated interiors.
