About the Item
Straightened early Biedermeier Secretaire or Drop-Front Secretary / Writing Desk in Cherry Veneer from South Germany around 1820.
Neoclassical design with greek gable cornice, beautifully selected blonde cherry veneer on hard and softwood (oak, maple and spruce underwood).
Book-matched veneer and several ebonized parts like the lisenes and top. Original brass fittings. 1 original old key and iron locks.
Inside with numerous drawers and secret compartments (see images), mostly veneered in cherry wood. Fold down writing plate in cherry wood with ebonized decorative lines.
At the bottom the secretaire has two doors and an open space behind with a shelfboard and a long iron lock.
Excellently restored condition with shellac hand polish (French polish).
