About the Item

This beautiful Secretary comes from Germany and was made around 1820–1840. The piece is made of pine wood, veneered with mahogany veneer. Upper Section – the so-called Tabernacle At the top is an impressive superstructure in the form of a miniature temple (often called a tabernacle or tempietto). It consists of a central cabinet with a "temple"-style front and two cylindrical containers on the sides, adorned with beautiful, original bronze handles. This architectural superstructure was a symbol of prestige in the 19th century – it was used exclusively in luxury furniture. Secretary with a Pull-Out Drawer and Writing Surface The upper, wide drawer slides forward simultaneously, lowering the writing surface, which is upholstered in black leather. Two additional, hinged flaps extend the work surface. Interior – Richly Equipped Drawers' Section Upon opening, a spectacular interior is revealed, featuring numerous small drawers, shelves, and a central compartment. The body is supported by slender, black columns – a typical feature of high-end Biedermeier furniture. All drawers are adorned with beautiful mahogany veneer. Many retain their original 19th-century keys and hardware. Lower Section The lower section contains three full-size drawers, also veneered in flamed mahogany and lockable. Condition and Renovation This piece of furniture has undergone a professional, conservation-oriented renovation: – reinforced structure, – veneer refilled and polished, – surface finished with a traditional shellac polish, – drawer mechanisms function perfectly. This is an exceptionally rare, luxurious Biedermeier writing desk with exceptional architecture and beautiful veneer quality. Ideal for classical interiors, representative offices, and collections of high-quality antiques.
