About the Item

A 19th-century, antique Swedish two-part bureau made of handcrafted, polished, partly veneered Mahogany in good condition. The secretaire is composed of two upper doors, three shelves, and three large drawers, particularized by its original brass hardware and keys; each of them features two polished brass handles, pulls. The secretary is detailed with a writing flap, consisting of its original dark-red leather top and many small storage spaces, standing on four arched wooden feet. Minor losses, scratches due to age. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa 1810-1840, Sweden. This fine Swedish secretary reflects the elegant neoclassical influence characteristic of early 19th-century Scandinavian furniture. The warm mahogany surfaces display a rich, well-preserved patina, enhancing the bureau’s sculptural presence. The clean architectural form is complemented by subtle decorative details, while the fitted interior offers exceptional functionality for correspondence, documents, and small personal items. A versatile and refined piece, it works beautifully as a focal point in a study, bedroom, or living space, blending historical charm with timeless practicality.
