About the Item
The lower chest with three graduated drawers with openwork brass batwing drawer pulls and brass escutcheons with the key. Flanking the uppermost drawer are two slide supports with small brass pulls, used to support the slant front desk which opens down with hinges. The secretary desk top with a green tooled leather writing surface, a few drawers and numerous open compartments flanking a center compartment with a door. Raised on bracket feet.
The upper case with an ogee cornice over two glazed doors that open to the interior with three adjustable shelves.
Dimensions: 83 7/8" high x 43 1/4" wide x 22" deep
Condition: Please review the detail photos. Various signs of age and use include stable age cracks on the drop front and lower drawer, stains on the top drawer, repaired veneer section on the top drop front molding. There are some age related stable splits, lifting and wear to the veneers, slight loss to top drawer trim on the left side along with other some minor losses. The left side with some stains, los the right side with stains and stable cracks. The upper doors do not close tightly. The top case with some stable cracks and stains to the right side. All of the aforementioned is for accuracy as the Secretarypresents in a particularly fine and historic manner.

A very rare antique George III English Mahogany secretary bookcase, with a fitted collector's or doctor's cabinet to the base, circa 1790.
The bookcase in two sections; the top section with a flared cornice with a frieze of dentil molding below, the bookcase with twin glazed doors with intersecting curvilenear astragals, the doors enclosing a pair of adjustable shelves.
The base having a deep drawer with a locking fall front desk, fitted with a tooled & gilded leather writing surface, and a fitted interior with pigeonholes with removable doors and drawers each fitted with an oval gilded name label. Below are a pair of locking doors enclosing an elaborately fitted interior; comprising one long shallow tray shaped drawer above a host of 13 drawers of various sizes, all with the original brass hardware and corresponding oval gilded name tag, to the left side is a file space.
