About the Item

Italian Lombardy Flower-Inlaid Monetiere In the manner of Giuseppe Maggiolini, circa 1820 This finely crafted monetiere exemplifies the refined artistry of Lombard furniture during the Neoclassical period. Throughout this era, Italian cabinetry was distinguished by exquisite marquetry and inlay work in contrasting woods, a style perfected by Giuseppe Maggiolini (1738–1814)—whose influence is clearly reflected in this piece. The front is richly inlaid with floral motifs of exceptional precision and harmony, demonstrating the high level of craftsmanship achieved by Maggiolini’s followers in early 19th-century Lombardy. Behind the hinged front panel are six fitted drawers, intended for the storage of coins, jewelry, or important documents. The cabinet is surmounted by a yellow marble top, added at a later date, which complements the elegant proportions and Neoclassical character of the piece.
