About the Item
A magnificent mid 19th century circa 1841 continental chest secretaire slant top with figured bookmatched walnut mahogany fletches. Includes two large lower drawers and a secret bow convex drawer at the very bottom. Resting on a tapered bracket walnut feet.
The top convex drawers have all original locks and keys. The main body of the piece is made of pitch pine with all drawers made from pin dovetails.
There are 4 drawers on top. The interior gallery contains 6 generous size drawers all handmade, dovetailed, faced with top drawer burl walnut veneer. The center theatre is all bookmatched with a quilting of mastery of choiced veneers draped as flowing theatrical curtains. The center drawer pulls out to reveal a HIDDEN drawer. All drawers with bone knobs.
The finish is completely restored with a French polish.
