About the Item

Circa late 19th century, this small Italian Scriban carries the gentle character of age with its original painted finish and beautifully balanced proportions. The exterior is rendered in a naturally aged warm antique white, with gilded highlights tracing the softened classical lines of the piece. There is a light Rococo softness in its silhouette, expressed in a restrained provincial interpretation rather than the elaborate curves of French Louis XV design. The gently shaped cabriole legs rise into stylised scallop motifs at their tops, adding a subtle decorative flourish without overwhelming the form. The desk retains its original brass fittings — delicately decorative droplet handles whose softened patina brings a quiet warmth. The drop-front opens to reveal a solid oak interior matured to a rich, warm patina over time. Four small drawers and an arched central compartment offer practical storage, the natural wood tones providing a handsome contrast to the painted exterior. A charming and authentically aged example of Italian provincial craftsmanship, offering both decorative presence and everyday usefulness in a graceful, modest scale.
