About the Item

This South German Biedermeier secretary from around 1825 displays a particularly striking walnut veneer with strong, mirrored patterns across the entire front. The warm, expressive grain is laid over a traditional softwood carcass and gives the piece a refined and elegant appearance. The drop-front opens to reveal a beautifully arranged interior, partly veneered in walnut and birch, with numerous small drawers featuring ebonized knobs that create a subtle contrast. The interior is well preserved and shows the craftsmanship typical of early 19th century German cabinetmaking. The keys are made of brass, fully functional and added to fit the original locks. The surface has been carefully restored and hand-polished, allowing the natural depth and color of the veneers to come through. With its balanced proportions, impressive veneer work and authentic period details, this secretary is both a practical writing piece and a highly decorative example of high-quality Biedermeier furniture.
