About the Item

A generously sized 19th century secretary desk from Sweden, made in the Gustavian style, with a striking painted finish of ruddy, patinated oxblood enveloping the pine construction. The top flap, secured by working lock key, unfolds to reveal a well-appointed interior: six stepped drawers and two large cubbies provide lodgings for inkpots, quills, parchment…or perhaps a laptop and tablet for today's needs. Three wide drawers, like a commode, span the chest base, opening by turned knobs. A shaped skirt of whimsical carvings is an unexpected moment to show a bit of flair in this multifunctional, substantial case antique. Please view the detailed images to see the current condition.
