Antiques of London
A fine quality vintage military campaign secretaire chest of drawers, beautifully crafted in striking figured hardwood with brass-mounted corners and recessed campaign handles. This piece combines the rugged practicality of military furniture with the refined elegance of a secretaire desk.
The secretaire drawer drops down to reveal a fitted interior with pigeonholes and compartments, along with a rich red leather writing surface that has been naturally aged over time, adding to its charm and authenticity. The writing desk can also be extended further — it is currently blocked with a piece of wood, but this can easily be replaced should you wish to restore its full functionality.
The wood has been fully French polished, bringing out the deep, warm tones of the hardwood grain and giving the piece a fine, lustrous finish.
Campaign furniture was originally designed for ease of transport during military campaigns, with brass corners and recessed handles to withstand travel and movement, while still retaining a smart and sophisticated appearance suitable for officers. This secretaire chest embodies those traditions perfectly.
