About the Item

Combining an ornate composition with a rich patina, this antique set of shelves offers a covetable period piece. Built in France in the 1800s, the tall, bee-hived shaped structure houses an array of curving shelves, framed by turned balusters and sinuous scrolls. These smooth and serpentine shapes find a striking contrast in the spiked peaks of the backboards. The polished finish of the wood has aged to a luxurious patina, which accentuates the bold silhouette with its dark and silken shine. An elegant crest of foliate motifs framing a cornucopia of carved fruit crowns the composition — a symbol of abundance.
