About the Item

Wall mounted sideboard unit by Florence Knoll, made by Knoll International, Stuttgart in 1954. Rare opportunity to acquire an original Knoll International custom-made Florence Knoll wall-mounted sideboard in special width. Normally these pieces were only made with 2 compartments.. In total, the sideboard is 285cm wide - the veneer pattern of the selected teak runs across the entire front! A wonderful detail... The sideboard is of course labelled by Knoll, see Photos. The 3 doors are each fitted with leather handles, which are locked by concealed push-button ball catches. On the inside, the compartments are lined with light maple, 2 compartments have height-variable shelves - the left compartment is designed as a "bar compartment", glass shelves can be inserted in the rear area (these are missing in our photos). As these glasses do not go all the way to the front, bottles etc. can still be placed in front. The back of the front is not made of maple but of white formica - this is much more durable and therefore predestined for "bar use"! The brackets for wall mounting are available and are of course included. You can have the sideboard mounted at any height. 38cm deep, 285cm wide and 45cm high. The condition is very nice for a furniture almost 70 years old, of course there are normal signs of use. Dear interior designers, architects and of course all other interested parties - due to the image compression of 1stdibs the photos here are unfortunately mostly rather spongy and possibly not suitable for customer presentations. Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby have designed Planophore 2014 for Vitra as a dual-purpose - room divider and bookshelf. Its open sides create a horizontal emphasis underscored by the solid shelves with rounded bottom edges, which are reminiscent of aircraft wings and appear to float on the vertical panels. This also explains the name of the shelf: the original Planophore made its debut in 1871 as the first stable model aeroplane...
