Italian Floor to Ceiling Shelving Unit, Second Half 20th Century

About the Item

A floor-to-ceiling shelving unit, with space for both display and storage. Italy, second half 20th century. Designer unknown. The set is made of wooden block-board, finished in walnut, with black metal uprights running between the floor and ceiling. The cupboards are veneered to all sides except the back; shelves are veneered to all sides. The cupboard sits at the lowest point while the shelves can be positioned according to your needs. The components are as follows: - Two floor-to-ceiling uprights - One cupboard with double doors - Four shelves, each with two shaped shelf-hangers For further details of components and dimensions see below. The set is in original vintage condition with an aged character, and in overview presents nicely. It's worth noting there are age-appropriate signs of wear inside and out, and examples include scratches, small knocks and dents; losses to the paint of the uprights and to the wood; age-related wear to the hinges of the cupboard doors, which are early examples of concealed hinges. There is a small dig and scratches on the top of the cabinet (image 13 has been lit to highlight). The is variation in tone to the doors appears to be in the wood and minor repairs to the feet and headers. Please be aware this set is designed to be positioned between the floor and the ceiling - it does not attach to the wall - and will require suitable installation to ensure strength and stability. The set will be dismantled for shipment. Components Approximate Dimensions: - Overall approximate dimensions as shown: H 300-303cm x W 97cm x D 45cm. There is some capacity for micro-adjustment to the height through the brass screws top and bottom, this helps deal with slightly uneven floors. There are spikes at the ceiling end, the spike is not included in the height figures - Uprights can have feet and headers removed for shipping, reducing height to around 280cm for this purpose - Widest point is the outer edge of the floor or ceiling pieces (diameter 7cm) - Cabinet: W 90cm (including the wrap around the uprights) x D 45cm x H 50cm - Shelves: W 88cm x D 35.5cm x H 2cm - Shelf hangers (8 units): H 17.5cm x D 17.5cm x W 2.2cm
