About the Item

A.R. Cordemeyer designed this three-section industrial storage unit for Gispen during the 1950s-60s, representing the pinnacle of Dutch functionalist design. Constructed from gray enameled metal with adjustable shelving and a central drop-down cabinet door in black, the piece employs modular principles that defined postwar European furniture production. The unit features visible metal shelf clips along vertical tracks, allowing for customizable storage configurations. Cordemeyer's design reflects the industrial aesthetic championed by Gispen, utilizing metal fabrication techniques developed for institutional and commercial applications. The gray enamel finish and exposed hardware exemplify the honest materiality valued in Mid-Century industrial design.
