About the Item

Minimalist design, flexible and functional, The classic Staples 'Ladderax' mid century shelving system. Designed by Robert Heal and manufactured for Staples of Cricklewood. Circa 1960's. Single bay of Ladderax shelving unit Constructed of original black metal uprights with removable supports, allowing the teak shelves to be positioned wherever required. The Bookcase Has Thin Black Metal Side Supports With four Adjustable Teak Shelves. 2 shelves are deep throughout the cabinet while the other two are narrower. The ladders lean against the wall allowing approximately 16cm. Metal rods are hung between the rungs of the ladders. The shelves slot firmly onto the rods. It comes with two metal diagonal-braces. The shelves can be fitted in any configuration on the ''ladder'' ends. ( distance 7.5 cm from each end) This would make a great additional to an existing system or as a stand alone shelving unit (in which case the ladders should be secured using the screw holes) Heavily influenced by Danish furniture design at the time, Heal’s creation proved wildly popular and sixty years on still provides an anchor point for contemporary living spaces around the world. Dimensions: overall 93.5 cm wide x 36 cm depth x 132 cm high Shelves: 2x 89 cm wide x 36 cm depth 2 x 89 cm wide x 20.5 cm depth Minimum heigh to install is 19 cm Max heigh to install shelf is 126 cm Condition: Very good condition The teak boards have been restred. Still they will show wear and tear commesurate with age. The ladders are in fantastic condition considering their age, with only a few minor signs of the black powder coating wearing away.
