About the Item
The Pyramid Shelf is made and designed by American furniture maker Greg Palombo. This monumental shelf is a contemporary reinterpretation of the ancient and ubiquitous pyramid form. We approached the piece with a mathematic division of space and the swooping line from a bell curve. During the designing, we continually referenced the great Shiro Kuramata to help guide us. The shelf is made from 1 inch thick MDF and painted with silver automotive paint giving the surface a highly reflective and durable surface.
All Greg Palombo pieces come with a life time warranty that covers any defect in craftsmanship or materials.

Greg Palombo
My name is Greg Palombo and I am an American furniture maker and designer. I produce and sell pieces found here on 1stdibs and I work with interior designers as a consultant for their furniture design and fabrication needs. The work I make takes on various personalities, but it all falls under a methodology of how they are conceived, designed and executed. The genre of furniture has so much to offer, and I am always responding to history, form, color, material, or workmanship. Each piece I make addresses an idea, or a combination of them. Working in this mode leaves little allegiance to an particular visual aesthetic which keeps the work fresh and exciting. I am always on my toes trying to dip and dodge through new challenges and hurtles in the design process. It leads to a lot of failure but the pursuit is what keeps me jazzed. When designing I always try to think about what a piece can become rather than what it is. Through this I hope how to express something beyond just function. Columnata took its name from its underlying inspiration and a frequent reference in Tusquets’ work, the column. Within this vertical structure, the horizontal shelves can be arranged in various formations— symmetrical and asymmetrical, wall-hung or free-standing. The final units are functional and refined, ideal for book-lovers and anyone who enjoys such compositional harmony.
Oscar Tusquets describes himself as an architect by training, a designer by adaptation, a painter by vocation, and a writer through the desire to make friends. Graduating from Barcelona’s Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura in 1965, Tusquets became a member of Studi Per. Together, they founded BD in 1972, and he set about designing furniture and objects, soon recognised by the Spanish National Design Award.
