About the Item

A rare and remarkable Mid-Century Pilastro wall unit set by renowned Dutch designer Coen de Vries. This comprehensive system combines multiple panel-backed bookcases with extended shelving units, offering extensive storage and display possibilities. Its striking design embodies the functional elegance and modularity of post-war Dutch modernism. Central to the unit is a dedicated work desk, featuring practical metal drawers and a coordinating teak top for a sophisticated workspace. A distinctive overhead light unit slides into the bottom of the overhanging shelving, equipped with a built-in enameled metal shelf, providing both illumination and additional display space. The cohesive design allows for both organization and aesthetic appeal. In very original condition, the metal elements display visible signs of wear and some enamel loss, authenticating its vintage journey. One tall bookshelf has a small hole cut in the back panel, a minor detail consistent with past use. The desk measures 48” W x 24” D x 28.75” H. This large-scale Pilastro unit by Coen de Vries offers an exceptional blend of form, function, and Mid-Century Dutch design heritage.
