Handcrafted Clay Storage Object "405–B" by Turbina Studio
"405–B" is a one-of-a-kind handcrafted storage sculpture made of intersecting clay slabs that create compartments for storing books, small items, or serving as a sculptural side table. Designed by Barcelona-based studio Turbina, the piece is part of the “405” project, developed during a three-month artist residency in the United States. The project takes its name from the iconic Interstate-405 and explores the symbolic and physical experience of roads, movement, and hospitality. Crafted using slab-building techniques at CSULB’s Center of Contemporary Ceramics, the work pushes the limits of clay through architectural precision and structural tension. The resulting piece is a minimalist, functional sculpture that blurs the boundaries between furniture and art, offering a poetic interpretation of journey, space, and material experimentation.
