USA, circa 1960, David Wider Associates
An elegant wall-mounted cabinet by David Wider Associates, a New York furniture maker whose work, though relatively scarce, reflects a level of craftsmanship and design on par with contemporaries such as Tommi Parzinger, John Vesey, and William Haines. Wider’s aesthetic merged refined modernism with traditional decorative elements, often realized in exotic veneers and finely detailed hardware.
This two-door console is veneered in richly figured rosewood with fine holly or maple thread inlay and fitted with dramatic English-style cast brass hardware. The frosted glass top is internally lit, providing both function and theatrical effect. The interior is fitted with painted shelving and a silver-painted drawer with dividers. Secondary construction in oak and birch provides stability, with a lacquered plywood back panel designed for wall mounting. The piece installs easily via a slide-in cleat system.
