About the Item

This Himachal blanket chest or prayer chest was originally made by nomadic people that originate from Northern India – an area known to host the Dalai Lama. This chest was made with the dowel method that allows it to be taken apart and put back together easily when tribes would be traveling from different places. The chest is made from solid wood, that has markings to show its age. Some original paint shows through in areas but the wood is distressed giving it a very natural look to home decor. The chest can be opened from the top piece which is held on by a chain. It is large enough to be a great storage compartment or used as a console table to sit inside an entry way. This is a very beautiful and very unique piece.
