About the Item

Scotland, ca. 1840s. A charming chiffonier or sideboard in the William IV or early Victorian style. Features solid pine construction with a stepped-back shelf supported by turned columns below a hand-carved Neoclassical frieze. Wide drawer is perfect for linens and cutlery - while the paneled doors open to reveal space ideal for china, serving pieces, etc. Freshly waxed to preserve patina and in overall very good antique condition - with all the appropriate marks of age and use. Would be lovely in a small dining room, breakfast nook, or make a fabulous home bar. Cottage style pine furniture - such as this - became especially popular in England Scotland during the Victorian era. Its quaint charm and simple designs provided a welcome contrast to the heavier and more formal furniture of the city, which made these pieces well-suited to country retreats and farmhouses. Today, we find these forms an easy and effective way to add soul and interest to even the most austere interior - and a lovely complement to modern. Dimensions: 46.25” wide x 19.25 deep x 53.5 high.

England, ca. late 17th century. A fabulous antique Jacobean or Charles II style chest on stand. Features solid oak construction with a planked top with moulded edge above two small and two large geometrically paneled drawers. Cast brass drop handles and escutcheons are most likely replacements but are period and stylistically correct. (This is not uncommon as brasses were often sold or melted down in times of conflict.) Supported by an unusual separate arched base that includes two narrow drawers and turned bun feet. An attractive survivor perfectly suited to a variety of interiors, we were drawn to the piece’s dark finish and dramatic - yet lovely - presence.
