About the Item

A double-sided low cupboard known as the “File Rack” (model PJ-R-27-A), handcrafted in solid teak with its original M.L.A. (H)-95 marking. Designed in the late 1950s for the administrative buildings of Chandigarh, India, this piece embodies Pierre Jeanneret’s union of utility, craftsmanship, and understated beauty. The File Rack features six open compartments for storage, four central bays and two raised side compartments, supported by side panels that extend seamlessly into the legs. The architectural clarity of its form reflects Jeanneret’s commitment to functional elegance. Working alongside his cousin, Le Corbusier, Jeanneret played a pivotal role in furnishing the newly conceived city of Chandigarh. The resulting furniture collection became a cornerstone of mid-century modern design: simple in form, enduring in construction, and deeply connected to its civic purpose. We welcome all enquiries and ship worldwide.
