About the Item
This 19th-century storage chest balances a streamlined silhouette with vibrant color and wabi-sabi textures. Originally configured to open from the top, the cabinet's paneled front has been modified into nine shallow drawers, each with a simple brass teardrop pull. The exterior has been brushed with a sheer layer of red-orange lacquer atop a heavily worn finish for renewed vibrancy and a richly textured surface. The lacquer's warm red color and cloudy opacity reminds us of red coral or carnelian stone, two fine materials known for their beauty and protective qualities.
