About the Item

A stunning Edwardian mahogany bowfront sideboard in the manner of 'Edward and Robert's', London. This exceptional piece is finely carved with beautifully rich patination, grain and crossbanded, line inlaid with fabulous marquetry panels depicting Neoclassical motifs throughout. The well figured, moulded bow fronted top of rectangular form with a gorgeous crossbanded and line inlaid border is raised over a deep frieze with single centred long drawer with decorative foliate brass swan ring pulls and escutcheons flanked with a pair of concave cupboards. The pair of cupboards feature fabulous marquetry oval panels to the central reserves depicting Neoclassical urns encircled with richly scrolling foliate wreaths, ruffles and tied ribbon bow motif detail. Supported on elegantly tapering square leg with delicate line inlaid panels, terminating on spade foot. Edward Roberts Edward and Roberts were founded in 1845, and had premises at 21 Wardour Street London. By 1892 they occupied more than a dozen buildings in Wardour Street, where they continued to trade until the end of the century. They became one of the leading London cabinet makers and retailers working in a variety of styles, both modern and revivalist. Edward and Roberts specialized in marquetry, inlay and ormolu.
