About the Item

This refined French cabinet by Jean-Claude Mahey showcases his signature faux–marble lacquered finish in warm cream tones, creating an elegant stone-like appearance with a luxurious sheen. The long, structured façade is defined by vertical column details and polished brass accents, adding both architectural clarity and subtle glamour. Inside, generous storage compartments and two central drawers offer exceptional functionality for dining, living, or office interiors. The cabinet’s sculptural presence and meticulous craftsmanship embody the sophisticated French design language of the late 1970s. This piece forms part of a matching suite that includes a coordinating round dining or center table. Jean-Claude Mahey, born into a lineage of skilled decorative painters, developed a refined sensibility for surface, material, and craft from an early age. After graduating from the École Supérieure des Arts Appliqués in Paris in 1966, he established his own contemporary furniture atelier a decade later, working closely with his wife, Betty Mahey. Together, they created an extensive body of work distinguished by the use of luxurious finishes, high–gloss lacquer, precious metals, exotic woods, and marble, executed with meticulous precision in their own workshop. By 1992, the couple opened a dedicated Paris showroom and gradually welcomed their children, Cecilia and Maxence, into the family enterprise, ensuring the continuation of a distinctly French design lineage defined by elegance, craftsmanship, and a mastery of decorative technique.
