About the Item

Chest of drawers in wood, metal, and brushed aluminum with a marble top, produced by Knoll, designed by Florence Knoll, 1960s A long life, great masters, and well-deserved, lasting success. The legacy of Florence Knoll has profoundly shaped interior design in the second half of the 20th century. Through the Knoll brand, alongside her husband, she completely reimagined office and workspace furniture, introducing modern, refined pieces that also catered to aesthetic needs. Knoll’s designs reflect a distinctly American tradition in furniture and production, combined with a taste shaped by a more European vision of aesthetics and decoration. During her training, Florence Knoll met Le Corbusier and Alvar Aalto and collaborated with Marcel Breuer. The brand’s production echoes these influences, which are evident even in this versatile chest of drawers from the 1960s. The structure is impeccably linear and geometric, with well-proportioned dimensions and six drawers. A subtle, finely crafted groove serves as the handle, allowing the drawers to be opened effortlessly. The legs are in chrome-plated metal, while a slab of natural stone rests on the top of the piece. Knoll, always keen to introduce a touch of warmth to even the most rational and functional designs, entrusted the beautiful veining of green marble to bring a sense of warmth to the piece’s overall aesthetic. This chest of drawers, renowned for its design, is particularly rare in this combination of materials. The brushed aluminum fronts of the drawers are both unusual and valuable, maintaining their aesthetic appeal and timeless charm nearly fifty years after their conception. The enduring legacy of Florence Knoll and her unique design philosophy is clearly evident in this piece. Dimensions: Height: 65 cm (25.6 in) Width: 95 cm (37.4 in) Depth: 45.5 cm (17.9 in)
