Italian Macassar Sideboard with Brass Details, in the Style of Gio Ponti, Vittorio Dassi, 1960s Cinematic glamour distilled to line and sheen — a collector’s piece of Italian mid-century sophistication. This long, low sideboard channels the height of 1960s Italian modernism, where furniture borrowed the poise of architecture and the drama of cinema. The rectilinear case floats on tapered, ebonised legs capped with brass sabots, giving the piece a light, almost suspended presence despite its generous volume. Across the front, a continuous sweep of high-gloss Macassar-style veneer reads like a landscape of dark flame grain, broken only by a central panel inset with a diamond lattice of brass lozenges. This jewel-like detail turns the middle bay into a focal point, recalling the refined metalwork and luxurious finishes of Vittorio Dassi’s Milanese interiors. Subtle square brass pulls punctuate the doors, maintaining the strict geometry of the façade. The silhouette sits at the intersection of Italian Rationalism and mid-century lounge glamour — as rigorous in proportion as it is indulgent in material. It evokes the work of Vittorio Dassi and his contemporaries, where cabinetry became a stage for exotic veneers, polished finishes and precision detailing.
