This storage furniture, known as a "kurumanagamochi" (cartridge), has been used in Japan since ancient times.
Made primarily from pine and cedar, it was commonly used in the Tohoku region.
It was typically placed at the entrance of a home to store household goods. It is thought to date to the Edo or Meiji period.
The natural reddish-black color, which has aged over time, blends beautifully with the peeling paint, giving it a beauty reminiscent of a work of art.
